Snowflakes, Mittens and Hats!
We returned from Christmas vacation…still pretty filled with spirit! Our first project for all but one of the classes in 2020 was to make mittens and hats to shield us from the wintery weather. We used acrylic paint and instead of our usual paintbrushes, we used foam blocks to make the imprint of a perfect cube. The kids were given an assortment of colors and were encouraged to do a variety of patterns. For the younger groups the finished project was attached to a string with clothes pins mounted on a study piece of cardstock. A few thumbprint or punched snowflakes, and cotton balls finished off our thermal artwork!
The older bows group did a 3-D snowflake. we carefully did an accordion fold, with each section measuring about 3/4”. The boys were asked to draw circles, diamonds and ovals along the edge of the folded paper and with the center secured, they began cutting. Pieces of paper flew all over until they were finished. Now they worked on one side at a time and pulled apart the folds to reveal the designs, that like snowflakes…were completely and originally theirs! I was thrilled to have the kids back in class and our first project of 2020 was in the books!
