Back to Art Class!!!

After a lot of consideration and some health and safety changes….The Creative Kids Studio came back in September! With all that we learned about masks, distancing and taking care of each other, classes began again with a back to school lesson on a famous artist…Mondrian, and learning about primary (or BOSSY) colors. I could not be happier with the results and grateful for the realization that getting back to art was like riding a bike!!! So let’s keep peddling and maintain our balance!

THE ARTWORK

Primary colors rule! After talking about the three primary colors- RED-YELLOW-BLUE….The BOSSY COLORS and facts about the artist MONDRIAN…The kids were given the outline of an apple, backpack, school bus or their own initial drawn on white cardstock. Using the forbidden at home….SHARPIES…the kids sectioned off the inside of the form with a black sharpie and colored it in.

WHAT THEY LEARNED

The PRIMARY COLORS are: RED-YELLOW-BLUE

The PRIMARY COLORS are the BOSSY COLORS…because they are in charge. You can make the SECONDARY or TERTIARY COLORS: GREEN-ORANGE-PURPLE by mixing two of the three PRIMARY COLORS together.

PIET MONDRIAN. 1872-1944

-Born in Amsterdam

_The type of art he created was ABSTRACT ART

-His father was an art instructor, his uncle an artist

-He moved to New York City as a young man to work with other artists who were exploring ABSTRACT ART

-One of his most famous paintings was inspired by the streets of New York City called “Broadway Boogie Woogie”

-His artwork went beyond the canvas influencing furniture, fabrics, clothing….AND Nike sneakers!

-Mondrian loved music, especially jazz. He loved to dance but wasn’t very good at it.

-Favorite Disney movie…Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Maybe the colors in her dress had something to do with it!
